Blog Illustration (Isolation Observation)

In my April and May months of self-isolation, I had been tasked to create this illustration for my friend's new blog titled ‘COVID-19 Isolation Observation”.

The aim was to create a positive vision of this current self-isolation period. "…to reflect the mystical land of a Zen bedroom, where time and obligations have slipped away" was the description given to me. It also aimed to reflect the modern, urban, spiritual life: serving as a reflection for those of us in this sedentary, digital age, seeking a more fulfilling, harmonious, inner-focused lifestyle.
We see you.
The time you spend alone,
charging your battery,
and cultivating your energy,
it is appreciated.
By me,
by your community,
by the universe.

The interior design/decor of the room was inspired by both me and my friend's bedrooms – all the memories of tranquil evenings spend together. The infinity symbol points towards the dissolution of time in quarantine. The orange clothes represent both the archetypes of the prisoner and the Buddhist monk – pointing towards those two opposing ways of looking at spending time in isolation. The overall colour palette was inspired by my friend’s blog (a pastel version of these hues).

And finally, I've been hugely inspired by the beautiful and magical artwork of Alexis Rakun Her illustrations are very grounded in reality – which inspired me to create with a more realistic sense of perspective and space. I enjoyed this challenge and exploration into interior design (decorating a space that feels like it could exist in 3D reality) and I am keen to keep developing my perspective skills in the future.
